Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How often should my instrument be serviced?
A: In general, most students should have their instrument serviced once or twice per year, or at the first sign of any trouble. For brass instruments, this usually means a chemical cleaning and close inspection of the instrument. For woodwinds: inspection of the pads, replacement of failed pads and making any needed adjustments. Of course, if you're using your instrument more frequently, it will need serviced more often. Some of our customers who play professionally like to have their instrument serviced every other month and sometimes even once a month depending on how often they are playing that particular instrument.
Q: How long will the repairs take?
A: For most repairs, one week or less. We are sometimes able to perform repairs the same day (if needed), but additional charges may be applied.
Q: My instrument is in need of repair, but I have a performance/need to practice this week. Can you help?
A: Yes! Free loaner instruments are often available for you to use while your instrument is being serviced.
Q: What is the quickest way to contact you?

Q: Does The Broken Note rent instruments?
A: Yes! We have a variety of brass, woodwind, string and percussion instruments available for student rental. All instruments are of the best quality and are approved by local school music teachers.
Q: Does The Broken Note sell new instruments, or only used ones?
A: The Broken Note sells new and used instruments! New instruments we sell include Conn-Selmer band instruments, Jay Turcer guitars, Fender guitars and amps, Peavey guitars and amps, and many others! Used instruments have all gone through our repair shop to be sure that they will play 100% as well (or even better!) as a new instrument.
Q: How much will repairs to my instrument cost?
A: To give an accurate estimate on the cost of a particular repair, it is important for us to take a look at the instrument ourselves. Stop in anytime with your instrument and we'll gladly give you an on-the-spot estimate free of charge. For an idea of what our more routine services normally cost, click here.
Q: Do you carry lyres, reeds, cork grease and other musical instrument accessories?
A: Yes! We have a variety of lyres, reeds, lubricants and just about anything else you may need.
Q: Can I ship my instrument to you for repair and then have it shipped back to me?
A: No problem! Email us at brokennoterepairs@yahoo.com and request a 'Repair by Mail' form. It will come with complete packing/shipping instructions. After you fill the form out, slip it in the box along with your instrument and we will call with a free estimate for the repairs as soon as it arrives.
